The application form includes space for your personal and academic details as well as a personal statement.

You will need to upload a PDF Portfolio. There is also the opportunity to include links to your website or videos (if applicable).

PDF Portfolio Requirements: Submission Guidelines

Quantity: Submit a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 20 slides.
Format: The document should be in PDF format.Each slide can feature a single image or a curated layout of multiple images.
Annotation: Every slide must include a short caption explaining the work or your process.
The application form includes a space to include links to video works or websites that extend your PDF portfolio.

What to Include

Your portfolio should demonstrate a balance between developmental process and final outcomes. Please include:

Research: Sketchbook/Visual Journal pages, brief written notes, and contextual references (the artists or designers who inspire you).
Development: Worksheets, material experiments, and samples showing how your ideas evolved.
Resolved Work: High-quality images of completed projects.
Scale & Depth: Clear photographs of 3D or large-scale pieces.

Personal Statement Guidelines

In conjunction with your portfolio, your personal statement is an opportunity to tell us who you are as a creative. While you don’t need to cover every point below, your statement should address the following key areas:

1. Motivation & Intent

Why this course? Outline your reasons for wanting to undertake the UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design at SGBIS Rome
Aims: What do you hope to achieve? We understand if your goals aren't fully formed.

2. Relevant Experience

Current Practice: How are you currently engaging with Art & Design practice? (e.g., school subjects, independent projects or activities).
Themes & Interests: What subjects or themes drive your work? Are you drawn to a specific field or medium, such as Painting, Fashion, Architecture, Illustration, 3D, or Multimedia?

3. Personal Context

Wider Interests: Tell us about your life outside the studio. Your engagement with sports, volunteering, literature, performance or social interests helps us understand your perspective on the world.
