St George’s British International School is delighted to announce another strong performance by its graduating cohort following the release of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) summer 2023 results.
Initial headline figures indicate that the Class of 2023 have obtained an average score of 35 points, matching the results from 2019 prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall results are once again significantly above the global average, by five points, consistent with each of the past five cohorts’ results.
The 2023 global average of 30 points, down from just under 32 points last year, reflects a wider deduction in grade boundaries following three successive years where examinations were cancelled or impacted.
Of particular note, 57% of pupils scored 35 points or higher from a cohort of 63 pupils, and an impressive 34% of pupils gained 38 points or above.
The Class of 2023 have received a wide range of offers of admission from leading universities around the world, including Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, UCL, LSE, King’s College London, Yale, University of California Berkeley, McGill, Bocconi, TU Delft and Sciences Po, among many others.
Mary-Clare Startin, Vice Principal & Head of Senior School, said: “We are extremely proud of the IBDP results of the Class of 2023, from the overall performance of the cohort to the many individual success stories. It is particularly commendable that this year group, who were unable to sit their IGCSE examinations in Year 11 due to the pandemic, have approached their studies throughout with continued positivity and ambition. Every pupil should be exceptionally proud of themselves for navigating this most challenging of journeys. They are a very special group of young people who are poised to make a real impact in their chosen fields.”
A detailed analysis of results will be published on the Examinations section of the St George’s website in due course. Pupils are now undertaking the process of verifying their offer conditions and university acceptances, and we look forward to sharing further details of the destinations of our Class of 2023 later in the summer.
