Football teams recognised for inclusivity and performance on the international stage
St George’s British International School is marking the end of the sports season with a string of impressive achievements, highlighting the growing strength and inclusivity of its football programme.
National Recognition for Inclusivity in Sport
During the Easter break, the school was honoured at the CONI headquarters in Rome, where Sport e Pace presented St George’s with a national sporting award. The award recognises the school as a national leader in inclusive sport - a central pillar of the school’s philosophy to ensure that all students have the opportunity to take part and thrive.
MedCup Success in Verona
Just weeks later, three St George’s teams travelled to Verona to compete in the prestigious Mediterranean Cup tournament. Facing top-level school teams from across Europe and the Middle East, the students demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork.
The Boys’ Under-14 team and Girls’ B Team both earned runner-up finishes, while the Girls’ Under-14 A Team made school history by winning the Elite Silver competition - St George’s highest-ever placement at a MedCup tournament.
Top Player Honours
There was further cause for celebration when Penelope, a member of the Girls’ A Team, was named Overall Player of the Tournament. With more than 200 athletes taking part over the weekend, this individual recognition was a remarkable achievement and a proud moment for the entire St George’s community.
Looking Ahead
This success follows a year of exponential growth for the school’s football programme, which will enter an exciting new phase in September with the launch of the partnership with Newcastle United Foundation. The recent results are a promising sign of what’s to come as St George’s continues to invest in sport for all.
