We would like to celebrate our Year 12 and Year 10 pupils who competed in the recent AIBWSI Team Maths Challenge. This competition was created and organised by the St George’s Maths department and 11 teams participated from 6 different International schools from around Italy.
This year, the competition was held online via Google Meet with Marymount and Southlands International Schools from Rome, the International School of Como, the International School of Brescia, and the British School of Milan all taking part.
Pupils worked in mixed teams of four and the competition was split into three rounds of challenging Maths problems. Round one involved quick-fire sets of short questions, followed by the popular “Cross-number puzzle” in round two and then longer team questions in round three. We really enjoyed seeing all the pupils collaborating and it was a great opportunity to also meet peers from many different schools, at least virtually.
While the most important outcomes of the day were for the pupils to have fun and enjoy working together on some deeper-thinking Maths challenges, we were also delighted that two of the St George’s teams finished amongst the podium of winners.
Congratulations to everyone who was involved and next year we hope to be able to run the competition in person.
