Harvard, Yale and Cambridge Await for Class of 2020

Despite the unconventional end to their school careers, the St George’s British International School Class of 2020 have much to be excited about as they prepare to embark on the next phase of their lives.

Between them they have received offers of admission to over 60 different universities in the UK alone, including Russell Group universities such as Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Imperial, King’s, UCL, Warwick and York.

Their diverse range of academic interests is reflected in the programmes to which they have been accepted: Biomedical Sciences, Animation, Psychology, Music, Politics, Chemistry, English Literature, Aerospace Engineering, Architecture, Statistics, Marine Technology and many more.

Students looking to the US and Canada for their future studies have also been rewarded with offers from a number of prestigious institutions including Harvard, UPenn, Yale and NYU. Meanwhile, continental Europe continues to be an increasingly popular destination for some. Applications to Australian and other southern-hemisphere universities, where studies commence in early 2021, are also underway.

Students holding conditional offers will now await the results from their IB Diploma Programme in July to discover whether they have met their offer conditions.

One of the Class members, Mavi Bezzi, is heading to the UK to study Law, and holds offers from UCL, LSE, King’s and Queen Mary. “In choosing to read Law, London was the absolute destination of choice for me. In many ways, it is the centre of the legal world, with the proximity of the Royal Courts of Justice, the Old Bailey, the City Law Firms and the Inns of Court providing unique opportunities for students to network and really bring the study of Law to life. The international nature of St George's has encouraged me to embrace opportunities globally, which I hope to do through internships and by studying abroad in Hong Kong for a year as part of my degree programme.”

Romeo Dean has accepted an offer to undertake his Bachelor’s degree at Harvard University. “I applied to universities in both the US and the UK, and was fortunate to receive a range of offers. Harvard’s reputation, my experience of visiting the campus and the advice I received from university representatives were decisive factors in my choice. I have always been more drawn to the liberal arts system of American universities and the opportunity to discover different subjects before declaring a major.”

The destinations of the Class of 2020 will be determined the coming months. We congratulate all of the pupils for their hard work, contributions to school life and positive attitudes.
