Geographical Association Awards Centre of Excellence in Fieldwork to St George’s Geography Department

The Geography Department within the Senior School at St George’s has been recognised by the Geographical Association with the renewal of the award for the Secondary Geography Quality Mark, first issued in 2017 and has now achieved Centre of Excellence status for fieldwork provision.

Ms Veryan Blake, Head of Geography, said: “After being awarded the Secondary Geography Quality Mark for the first time in 2017 the Geography Department knew what to expect when applying to renew the award in 2020. After hours of collating data, showing results, sharing thanks and reflecting on areas of improvement, we were overwhelmed to receive an email confirming that not only had we successfully gained the SGQM for another three years but had also been awarded the prestigious Centre of Excellence award for our fieldwork provision.”

“Thank you to all the students whose work, feedback and enthusiasm supported our application and thank you to the team within the Geography Department for continuously striving to bring a unique, exciting and challenging experience to the students.”

Geography has long been a popular and flourishing department within St George’s, and is offered throughout Key Stage 3, as well as at IGCSE and IB levels.
