Outstanding IGCSE Results for Year 11 Cohort

The IGCSE results for the summer 2020 sitting have delivered an exceptionally strong outcome for the 79 pupils who completed Year 11 in June 2020.

We are delighted to announce that, from a total of 777 subject entries, 99% of examinations have been grade between 9 to 4 or A* to C. A total of 67% of examinations were awarded a grade of 9 to 7 or A* to A. Every pupil who completed a full set of 10 or more examinations received at least five IGCSEs graded between 9 to 4 or A* to C.

Plenty of success has been found in individual subject areas too. In Art, an astonishing 8 out of 15 candidates achieved the highest possible score of 9. A further 21 pupils achieved a score of 9 in Mathematics, as did 15 pupils in English Language, 12 in Physics, and 11 in both Biology and History.

Mr John Talbot, Assistant Head – Head of Key Stage 4, said: “Alongside our Class of 2020, no other year group in our school has faced the challenges that this resilient group of pupils have encountered, with the forced move to online learning just two months prior to their scheduled exams, and then the cancellation of the traditional examinations, which came as a great disappointment after all of the hard work put in over the past two years. The grades awarded are a testament to their ability as one of the strongest cohorts we have had at St George’s. They are well poised for further success as they move into the IB Diploma Programme.”

This year, the Centre Assessed Grades submitted to the examining boards were based on a range of subject dependent data, including mock examinations, end of Year 10 grades, module tests, coursework and oral exams. Pupil rankings were also applied based on the data.
