Sixth Form Lecture: The Art of Negotiation

By Ms Amber Haq
Assistant Head of Sixth Form

Ms Leah Dunlop is a Partner at Hogan Lovells LLP and is one of the very few bilingual, dual-qualified M&A lawyers operating in Italy.

She was the only woman ranked by Chambers Global 2018 as a Leading Lawyer in Italy for Corporate/M&A, which noted that “clients value her as very hard-working and client-focused with strength in bridging the cultural gap between non-Italian clients and local lawyers.” In January 2019 Leah and her team won the Legal community Award as Best Italian Law Firm of the Year in Oil & Gas, awarded by an independent panel of financiers and in-house counsel active in the sector.

Since the historical referendum in June 2016, there has been much debate about the advantages and disadvantages of Brexit. After Parliament’s rejection of the Prime Ministers proposed deal, and with the exit date of 29 March 2019 rapidly approaching, focus has sharpened on the detailed consequences of the UK “crashing out” of the EU without a withdrawal agreement.

Thank you to Leah, pictured with Year 13 representatives from the Student Council, for delivering the latest thought-provoking Sixth Form Lecture, entitled The Art of Negotiation: Lessons from Brexit. The talk reflected on some of the negotiation techniques deployed by the principal players in Brexit talks, teasing out some golden rules which may be applied in all negotiations to improve the likelihood of a successful outcome.
