
The
Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC) represents
the Heads of some 250 leading independent schools in the United Kingdom
and the Republic of Ireland. HMC has a further 60 or so international
members, up to 30 additional members (Heads of maintained schools in
the UK), and 34 Honorary Associate Members (retired members).
The
International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) is a
recognized leader in the field of international education, encouraging
students to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged
world citizens. Founded in 1968, we currently work with 1,920 schools
in 124 countries to develop and offer three challenging programmes to
more than 501,000 students aged 3 to 19 years.
COBIS (formerly COBISEC)
was founded in 1981 as the Council of British Independent Schools
and is a Charitable Association registered
in The Hague. There are currently 35 Members and 28 Affiliate Members
in 36 countries representing over 30,000 students. The Association is
managed by an elected Executive Committee, which includes both Heads
and Board Members. The Secretariat in the UK provides services to Members
and Affiliate Members and is a reliable source of information for parents
looking for schools abroad.
As
an international school membership organization, the European
Council of International Schools provides services to support
professional development, curriculum and instruction, leadership and
good governance in international schools located in Europe and around
the world. ECIS creates opportunities for education and dialogue, encourages
alliances with other organizations, and acts as a catalyst for the advancement
of international education. ECIS schools are committed to the promotion
of an international outlook amongst all members of their communities.
Their staff and students are characterized by knowledge of, and respect
for, the beliefs and values of their own and other cultures and by the
willingness to acknowledge the existence and necessity of a range of
perspectives. ECIS members and affiliate members serve and support member
schools through an ongoing process of professional renewal characterized
and facilitated by networking, research, sharing and collegiality.
The
Council of International Schools (CIS) is a not-for-profit
association of schools and post-secondary institutions working collaboratively
for the continuous improvement of international education.
