Sport

Stop Press: Sam F. signs for Bayern Munich. Four pupils at St. George's play youth football for Lazio or Roma. Sam has, sadly, left the school to go full time in Gernany... Good Luck!

St. George's won both the Milan International schools' tournament events. The Girls won the Volleyball for the third year in succession and the Boys won the football. We recently also won the Rome "World Cup". Basketball, both boys and girls, continues to get bigger and stronger in our school.

As well as PE lessons, we have many sports clubs

  • Girls' Football - massively popular. Came second in an international tournament in Milan.
  • Boys' Football - the biggest sport, an obsession!
  • Calcotto (8-a-side football)
  • Calcetto (5-a-side football)
  • Football Champions League - deadly serious
  • Basketball - nearly as big as football, the basketballers train seriously and play tournaments and matches.
  • Tennis (see a coaching video). Our First Team is off to the UK in July to play in the UK National Independent Schools Tournament (Entry by virtue of our HMC status)
  • Mixed Hockey - the school has joined forces with a local club.
  • Girls' Netball - an occasional minor sport
  • Softball - an occasional minor sport
  • Girls' and Boys' Volleyball - very popular and very successful. The Girls won the International tournament in Milan two of the last three years and Boys are the current champions
  • Rugby - becoming more and more important. The team trains twice a week.
  • Table tennis - (six tables in the new sports centre) - House matches and club-based. See if you can beat the Head.
  • Cricket - an occasional minor sport
  • Dance - massive and crazy. Has its own shows and also ties in with Drama for productions and makes lots of ridiculous videos!
  • Badminton - there is a good standard at St. George's.

We play House matches in most of these sports. We recently played the Calcetto tournament for example, with Minerva winning. All that remains is the all-star game in which one player each from Year 13, 12, 11, and 10 (plus one free pick) play against the other Houses. Similarly, the younger pupils -Years 7,8, and 9 -have their own all-star game.
