St George's City Centre

The Junior school is located on Via di Santa Maria Mediatrice, Rome 00165, close to the Vatican in the south-west of central Rome.

Over the course of this year, the 1500m2 building has been completely refurbished to create a state-of-the art learning environment. As well as brand-new classrooms, pupils benefit from the use of two football pitches, an impressive indoor gymnasium, a 400-seater auditorium and a 25m swimming pool.

The Head of St George's City Centre is Michael Barber B Ed (Hons) FRGS.

Michael was appointed to St George's in 2005. Michael is a geographer by training and inclination. He was born in Uganda and lived in Australia and Zimbabwe as a boy. He started his teaching career in Bristol before moving to South East England.

He lives in the city with his wife, who teaches at St George's Senior School, and 3 daughters, all of whom have attended St George's.

Working at St George's has not only given me the challenge of using my experience working in UK Independent schools but tailoring this for children from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. Rome is a vibrant city to live and work in with a wealth of cultural and sporting activities for me – not forgetting the food of course!
